Federal funding will otherwise cease at the end of September.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives voted to avoid a government shutdown at the end of this month, as well as to remove the country’s borrowing limit. The vote passed 220-to-211 with no members of the minority party joining the majority. Government funding expires on the 30th of this month unless extended, or a new funding bill is passed by both the House and the Senate.
The future of the 9 week continuing resolution is uncertain, with an evenly split 50-50 Senate taking up the measure next. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said, “We want to send it over to the Senate and give the Senate an opportunity to consider it, figure out what they’re going to do and they may send it back to us, at which point in time we will have to make a determination, but we want to pass that bill.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress to seek God’s wisdom as they consider the federal budget.
- For Senators as they deliberate the bill passed by the House to avoid shutting down the government.
- That God would guide Congress on stewarding the nation’s money.
